The crash happened at the junction of Bromley Lane and Lapwood Avenue, in Kingswinford, at around 1.40pm.

Firefighters say it is believed the accident happened as Nissan Micra and Toyota Celica came together at the junction.

Two crews from Brierley Hill fire station were called alongside police and paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The roof was removed from the Nissan Micra to release the driver, a women, aged in her 70s, who was trapped by her injuries.

Another passenger, also a women aged in her 70s, was already out of the car but was assessed by paramedics.

Two other people in the second car were also treated for minor injuries. All were taken to Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital.

The road was blocked for around an hour while police marshalled traffic in the area close to Crestwood Park Primary School.

Acting watch commander Steve Porter said: "It was believed to be a side impact between the cars.

"We removed the roof off the car so she could be treated. The road was blocked but police were diverting traffic."
