Britmet Tileform on the Coneygre Industrial Estate in Tipton had only closed half an hour before flames were spotted at the firm's unit at 6.30pm yesterday.
Fire crews forced entry to the roofing material plant before tackling the blaze.
They managed to get the fire under control in 45 minutes before leaving the site just before 9.30pm.
The blaze caused damage to the machinery and parts of the roof.
Tipton watch commander Sean Stewart said: "It could have been a lot worse, but we managed to get in there quick and get it under control."
