A blueprint to help shape the future of Wolverhampton city centre is being created.

The area action plan will outline what the area should look like by 2026 and how the plans will be achieved.

It is being drawn up by city council chiefs who will use it to help influence decisions on planning applications, jobs, the environment, shopping, transport and community facilities.

Members of the public are now being asked what work they would like to see carried out.

Areas outside of the city ring road, including West Park, Chapel Ash, Molineux Stadium and ports of Graiseley, Blakenhall and All Saints will also be covered by the document.

Plans for a £6 million new youth centre, in the Westside area of the city, have also been approved while proposals for £10.6 million office and retail building by the railway station are in the pipeline.

Further work is taking place at University of Wolverhampton's city centre campus, to create a new science building, scheduled to be completed late in 2014.

Councillor Peter Bilson, cabinet member for regeneration, said: "The area action plan will be an exciting plan which will support and guide the transformation of the city centre over the coming years and the support of the community in the planning process is key to Wolverhampton's future."

Planning officers from the council will be in the Wulfrun Shopping Centre (next to Warren James Jewellers and Thomson Travel Agents) from December 17 to 19, where people can drop in to find out more information.
