Emergency services were called to Lichfield Street, Bilston, at around 4.30pm to reports of a car colliding with signs and bollards.

Police were first to arrive and closed the road to allow fire and ambulance crews to check on the vehicle and its occupant.

The female driver, believed to be in her late 30s, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to hospital for further assessment.

Watch Commander John Wildman, from Bilston fire station, said: "When we arrived police had already closed the road, which was causing problems with the traffic.

"It appears a woman driving a black sports coupe has hit some metal bollards and then bounced of a nearby wall and hit a sign before coming to rest against a lamp post.

"She was sitting in the car when we got there, but got out and was seen to by the ambulance crews.

"I'm just so glad that no one was on the pavement at the time."

Motorists in the area were stuck in traffic for some time after the crash while the vehicle was recovered.
