Santas dash for cash at Penkridge fundraiser

There were plenty of people giving Santa a run for his money at a charity fundraiser.

Around 30 runners donned Father Christmas outfits to take part in an annual fundraising dash.

The event, organised by the Penkridge and District Round Table, involved a half-mile run through the streets of the South Staffordshire town, starting and ending in Market Street.

Before the run started, Santa travelled around the route on a red vintage American fire engine before returning to his sleigh.

Dozens of people gathered to cheer the runners on as they set off yesterday, and donations totalling around £200 were collected for local good causes.

Chris Roddie, vice chairman of the Penkridge and District Round Table, said: "People were in good spirits and people were cheering others on as they set off. We were really pleased with how it went. There were kids in pushchairs being pushed by their parents and children aged between four and eight running with adults. The oldest runners we had must have been in their 50s."
