Man used marker pen to make forged bank notes
A man made two counterfeit bank notes with marker pen lines instead of a metallic strip before trying to use them in shops.
Vincent Warburton, 33, photocopied a real £5 and £10 note before printing them off and trying to buy items from two corner shops in Newtown, Welshpool Magistrates Court was told.
The father-of-three from Skylark Way, Newtown, admitted charges of tendering a false £10 note, making counterfeit £5 and £10 notes and possessing a counterfeit £10 note when he appeared at the court yesterday. The offences are said to have happened between October 1 and October 29.
Magistrates gave Warburton a 20-week jail sentence on each of the three charges to run concurrently, but suspended the sentence for 12 months. He was also given 250 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £80 victim surcharge.
Mr Stuart Arrowsmith, who did a probation report on Warburton prior to sentencing, said: "Warburton underestimated the seriousness of what he has done."
