Sarah is stoking up interest in art display

This time last year Sarah Stokes was drawing pictures for family and friends. But since buying her first watercolour kit in January the pupil referral teacher from Tettenhall has had her work on show in five art galleries stretching from Birmingham to Scotland.

Now the 47-year-old will be holding her first solo exhibition called 'Feathers and Fur' at Tettenhall College this weekend.

The artist says since she publicised her work on Facebook, demand for her pictures has been 'mad' and she was even asked to produce art for the album of an Australian band.

Miss Stokes, who has worked with children with West Bromwich Albion's Albion Foundation and Wolverhampton Wanderers initiatives, says she is excited for people to see her work.

She said: "I thought I'd invest in a water colour kit in January so I went online and searched top brand names and bought one. I started work and put my pictures on Facebook and on my website and I've had a great response.

"Whenever you hear water colour exhibition you sort of groan because you have this image of dull, sepia, landscapes. But not to sound big headed, my stuff is exciting, bold and modern."

The exhibition is on Saturday between 7pm and 9pm and then on Sunday between midday and 4pm.
