Pupils delve into the past with Express & Star photo archive
Children got a glimpse into the past and a taste of what it takes to be a reporter during a visit to the Express & Star.
Six pupils from Woodfield Junior School, in Penn, Wolverhampton, were shown around the extensive photographic archive at the head office in the city's Queen Street.
The Year 4, 5 and 6 students are working on the school's centenary newsletter, covering in-house events such as themed days.
They were shown the company's wide-ranging catalogue of thousands of pictures and clippings, dating back 139 years.
Back our bid to preserve snapshots of the past
Deputy head Heidi Perrett said: "It has been a wonderful opportunity for the children to see a newsroom at work.
"As the pupils who visited lead our centenary newsletter team, they have really had a great experience."
The pupils were given a tour by the Express & Star's brand and communications manager, Chris Leggett, who showed them, among other images, historic pictures of landmarks in Penn.
He said the day was about 'bringing the past back to life through the Express & Star' and added: "It was really about them seeing for themselves the scale, the variety and the sheer volume of photographs we have got."
The visit followed a bid by the Express & Star for Heritage Lottery funding to put the entire picture database onto a free-to-view website, which readers are being asked to get behind.
