Stourbridge FC fans all set for FA Cup upset
Stourbridge FC fans are backing their team for an FA Cup upset when they travel to Hertfordshire next month, knowing they are one game away from facing the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.
More than 100 tickets for the club's second round game at League One side Stevenage were sold to season ticket holders and members at the Glassboys home ground last night.
The two sides met at the same stage at the War Memorial Athletic ground in Stourbridge two years ago – with Stevenage coming out on top with a 3-0 win.
But fans last night said they were hopeful of a reverse result this time round. Gary Lawton, aged 39, of Norton near Stourbridge, has got tickets for the game for him and his step-son Rees Waltho, aged nine.
He said: "You never know on the day - but whatever happens, I'm sure all the fans who will make it down will have an excellent day out. It's the magic of the FA Cup, it gets everyone interested."
Mr Lawton, a roofer, had been a season ticket holder at Wolverhampton Wanderers for 16 years until he switched his allegiance two years ago.
Season ticket holders and members can buy tickets for the game on Sunday and Monday night before they go on general sale next Wednesday. The club has an allocation of 1,392.
Secretary Clive Eades said money received from the cup run could be used to improve the ground to meet regulations in the Conference North – the next league up for the club. Tickets going on general sale next Wednesday are available from The Milk Bar cafe, in Lower High Street, Stourbridge.
