Drivers to see restrictions on Hednesford car park hours

Drivers using a popular town car park will be restricted to four hours parking in a bid to stop workers from abusing it.

A four hour maximum waiting time will be introduced on Rugeley Road car park in Hednesford.

Council chiefs say they want to prioritise shoppers and people using leisure facilities in the town.

The car park remains free to use for up to four hours but the restriction is aimed at stopping people from leaving their cars there all day and clogging up spaces.

Cannock Chase Council will introduce a parking order on the council's section of the car park, to impose a four-hour maximum stay from December 9.

The restriction will operate between 8am and 3pm Monday to Saturday, excluding Bank Holidays. Anybody parking for more than four hours from this date may be subject to a penalty notice.

Councillor Diane Todd, portfolio leader for town centre regeneration, said "It is important as part of the town centre regeneration that the car park is used for its intended purpose as a short term shopper's car park and for leisure use."
