Riders from the third annual Rickshaw Challenge dropped into Holyhead Primary School, Wednesbury, yesterday.

The cycle involves a team pulling a rickshaw over eight days on a route which covers almost 700 miles in aid of Children In Need.

A procession of cyclists and rickshaw riders visited the Holyhead Road school to give pupils a boost ahead of their own efforts to support the cause.

The Holyhead pit-stop followed the rickshaw bringing traffic to a standstill on Wolverhampton's ring road earlier in the day.

Pudsey Bear and Matt Baker, who has been cycling with the procession, were met with the screams of youngsters from the Wednesbury school who had gathered to welcome them.

The presenter said they were delighted to have made it to the Black Country: "It's been amazing and a really stonking effort by everyone so far."

Headteacher Sandra Rex said: "We were absolutely delighted to be selected along the route. It was quite inspirational for the children to see people giving so much of themselves for charity."

The group was en route to Birmingham where The One Show filmed live last night.
