Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to St John's Road, along Stourbridge ring road, following the smash at the junction with Duke Street.

Both the male driver and female passenger had to be cut free from the car by firefighters due to the vehicle landing on its side.

The man was suffering from shock. The passenger suffered a cut to her head.

Both were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital for further checks.

Crews were called to the smash at around 6.15pm last night and closed off the road to Amblecote High Street at the junction with Vicarage Road.

Cars were diverted along Vicarage Road, Church Avenue, Penfields Road and Stamford Road to get into the town centre from Birmingham Street.

Long tailbacks formed along the length of Amblecote High Street stretching back to its junction with Brettell Lane.

There was also heavy traffic along Collis Street and Wollaston High Street.

Vehicles were delayed for around 30 minutes as the traffic continued to move slowly along the route.

Stourbridge ring road was partially reopened to traffic at around 7.30pm with vehicles able to use two carriageways along St John's Road.
