Two miles of new pipes will be laid by Severn Trent Water to connect homes in Slade Heath to its own sewer system.

The work will mean that residents in the area will no longer have to use a septic tank. Two new pumping stations will also be built as part of the project.

However, there will be hold-ups for drivers in the area while the new pipes are installed.

Severn Trent engineer Ben Gannon said it will improve drainage for residents adding: "The new sewers are a significant investment, which will mean that more than 70 homes will no longer have to use a septic tank. This will improve local drainage and better protect the environment, helping to prevent pollution."

Work on installing the new pipes is expected to start by the middle of next year and homes will be connected by 2015.

Bosses have warned there will be traffic disruption and temporary lights in place while the work is carried out.

Mr Gannon added: "We'll start work to construct the modern sewers in summer 2014 and we expect homes to be able to connect in the spring of 2015."

Severn Trent bosses have held a drop in session for residents at the Fox and Anchor Inn, Brewood Road, Slade Heath so they can find out more about the scheme.

The new sewers will be installed by Severn Trent Water's contract partner Amey.
