Danny, a 12-year-old soft coated wheaten terrier, has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the most performances by a dog after making a staggering 1,400 appearances in the hit musical Annie.

He started as a nervous seven-month-old puppy back in 2001 but is now a seasoned professional after touring with the show across the UK, Ireland and Jersey and appearing on stage alongside the likes of Su Pollard.

Despite the official tour having now left for Singapore, Danny is still in great demand among amateur productions.

Owner Ruth Mansell, aged 74, from Oakengates in Telford, said: "It was quite frightening at first and I didn't know if I could manage, as it was just 15 months after my husband had passed away. But then I got into it and started to enjoy it. I really miss the professional shows now."

Danny's latest role will be in Bilston Operatic Company's performance of Annie, which is running from Tuesday to November 9.

He will join a 40-strong chorus on stage as well as 35 local school children.

The story sees Annie, an orphan, and her dog Sandy placed in the lap of luxury for a week with billionaire Oliver Warbucks.
