How to dress like The Rocky Horror Show for Halloween

The hit show is continuing to thrill fans during its six-day run at Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre.

Crowds of Rocky Horror fans have been donning their PVC pants, suspenders and stilettos (that's just the men) to join in the fun as they watch the production.

And super fans of the outrageous stage show are now hoping to inspire others to embrace the look by sharing the secrets of how to get made up like its stars.

Theatre usher Adam Starr, a huge fan of the Rocky Horror Show, transformed himself into the show's raunchy star Frank-N-Furter.

In a Time Warp-ed look which is perfect for men and women alike, Mr Starr says the character of Frank 'n' Furter is easily put together.

He said: "When you dress as Frank-N-Furter you are not trying to dress as a woman, as he still has some masculine characteristics.

"His make-up is best described as if a man has been given a girl's make-up bag, and he is just not sure how to use it, and plasters everything on."

When getting into the character Mr Starr, aged 22, starts with a pale base, using a plain foundation to give his skin a uniform colour, and over the lips to stop the lipstick from bleeding. He covers his face in powder to stop the shine and then paints on over exagerrated dark eyebrows in a black and dark brown eyebrow pencil.

He then defines his cheekbones with a bronzer.

"Bronzer is great for making your face appear thinner," he adds. "You can highlight areas like your chin by using the bronzer to crate shadows elsewhere."

"I then use a white eye pencil on the inside of the eye, it really opens the eye out, and can be used as your regular make-up routine."

Mr Starr then focuses on his eyes and applies black eye pencil along the top of the lids and under the eye, followed by bright blue eye shadow on the lid and above. He then fills in the gap between the brow and the blue eyeshadow with a white powder, to highlight the eyes.

Mr Starr said: "Line your lips with a grey or dark pencil, it doesn't matter if it's messy, then fill in with a bright red lipstick."

He completes the rock'n'roll look with a black wig, before donning fishnet stockings, black shorts or hot pants and a black corset and high heels.

He said: "It is what's on the face that makes this look."

Grand Theatre bar worker Amy Warner delved into her make up bag to recreate the look of crazed maid Magenta.

Miss Warner, aged 22, says Magenta is known for her ghost-like complexion and also starts with a pale base and covers her face in a white face paint, before applying a natural powder.

A light brown eye shadow is then dusted on the lids, before applying a black kohl eyeliner both underneath the eye and on the lid. She uses a crayon type eyeliner which gives a smooth, thick black line. She said: "The thing with Magenta's look is that the eyes are really dark. You could use false eyelashes and then cover them with mascara. If not, just apply as much mascara as you can."

She finished her face with a deep red on her lips using a lip pencil.

Miss Warner said: "The most notable thing about Magenta is her hair. Back comb you hair in section, making it as big and as messy as possible. I am pinning the top half up to give it some height."

"Don't ever try and brush out backcombing. The best thing to do is wait until you're in the shower, cover your hair in conditioner then gently comb your hair through." She finishes the look with a black maid outfit and the all-important fishnet tights.

For those too freaked out at the thought of transforming into an all-out Rocky Horror look, there is the role of Columbia to recreate – a much more girly character and more sweet than sinister.

The theatre's marketing officer Laura Turner took on the look and said it was all about bright pinks and oranges.

Miss Turner, aged 25, said: " I have tried to make it as girly as possible. I have pink lips and cheeks, but lots of mascara to make your eyes stand out."

Miss Turner said Columbia's look is all about the outfit and bright colours – including pink wig, black corset, shorts over fishnet tights and sparkly hat.

The Rocky Horror Show will be at the Lichfield Street theatre until Saturday.
