And while the distinctive blue panelled police box is normally seen on the streets of London or spiralling through the space-time vortex, one has popped up a little closer to home.

The Tardis has been spotted out and about on Cannock Chase after craftsman Alastair Vincent quit his job as a financial adviser and started a business making replicas of the sci-fi icon.

The first one took him three months to design and build, but now he produces around one a week, with a price tag of £799.

The box will soon be transported to the site's main visitor centre in Marquis Drive, Hednesford, in the run up to Christmas.

Father-of-one Mr Vincent, of Muddy Paw Creations, explained: "The rangers at the Chase love the box. So it'll will soon be a feature outside the main visitors centre.

"When they start selling Christmas trees from the end of November, the police box will land."

He said visitors will be wowed by the light at the top which will flash red, green, yellow and blue.

And there are lights inside as well. He added: "They are a bit of fun and I think that they are likely to be used as a shed or maybe a wardrobe.

"I used to hide behind the sofa at the Daleks and can't say I am a fan of the programme but I am sure a lot of Dr Who fans will see the police box and make a connection to the programme."
