The blaze started in the loft and flames were soon shooting 10ft into the air from the terraced property in Smallshire Way, Stourbridge.

The occupants heard a bang and went outside to discover that the house was on fire.

At the height of the blaze 25 firefighters battled to stop the flames spreading to adjoining homes.

Watch Commander Brian Morris said: "We could see the street was heavily smoke logged as soon as we turned into the street. We had barely arrived when flames broke through the roof."

The blaze started at around 10.15pm on Saturday and is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault in the loft. A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.
