Police are locking up an Oldbury park at night in a bid to crackdown on young people who have been causing a nuisance.

Langley Park is being shut from 9pm after complaints that youths have been gathering to drink and smoke cannabis.

Patrols are also being stepped up around the High Street site.

The move follows a rise in reported anti-social behaviour.

"Langley High Street park has had an increase of reports of anti-social behaviour over the past few weeks whereby youths have been congregating and drinking, littering and on occasion smoking cannabis," states West Midlands neighborhood policing website.

"Officers and PCSO's are tackling this issue by increasing patrols, particularly on the late shifts."

It adds that officers have been confiscating alcohol and giving advice to young people about their conduct.

They have also issued ant-social behaviour warning letters.

Langley ward councillor, Mick Davies, said that the issue had been discussed by residents at neighbourhood forum meetings since July.
