The victim died at the scene in The Parade, Dudley, on Friday night.

A man voluntarily attended Dudley police station over the weekend to speak to officers as part of the investigation.

Mr Smart is believed to have been aged 39 and a former pupil of The Dudley School which has since become Castle High School.

He lived in Elm Road, on Dudley's Priory estate, where he had grown up.

Tributes were paid by James Bridges, a father of four and self-employed vehicle recovery worker, who also grew up on the Priory estate.

The 35-year-old said: "He would always stop and say hello. He was always very polite. He was a well-known, well-liked guy."

A neighbour, who did not wish to be named but said she went to school with Mr Smart, said: "He was one of those types of people who if you needed help, would always help you."

The collision happened at 8.50pm on Friday. Witnesses can call 101.
