Man arrested over Great Barr assault is bailed

A man arrested in connection with an assault which has left a Great Barr man critically ill in hospital has been bailed by police.

The 25-year-old was injured after he was assaulted outside a pub and Indian restaurant.

It happened outside Special Spices pub and restaurant, formerly known as the Asbury Tavern, at the corner of Bowstoke Road and Newton Road, Great Barr at around 9pm on Sunday.

Police said the man fell to the ground suffering a serious head injury. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault after being stopped in a vehicle in Birmingham by officers at around 3.45pm on Monday.

He has been bailed pending further inquiries.
