Mike Gatting to open new Wolverhampton cricket nets
Cricket legend Mike Gatting will be in Wolverhampton to officially open new indoor practice nets.
It will come in the same month he takes over as president of Marylebone Cricket Club to lead Lords into its 150th celebrations.
The former England skipper will be at Wolverhampton Sports Arena on October 23 and will be dishing out tops to budding cricketers from 7.30pm.
Mr Gatting said: "I'd like to see as many cricketers and potential cricketers as we can. The England and Wales Cricket Board is anxious to encourage indoor cricket in particular, as a way of countering the loss of many of our school playing fields."
The new nets at the Racecourse Road ground in Dunstall will allow the arena to expand its own successful indoor league.
Dharam Jagpal, owner and former ECB indoor cricket board member, said: "This is a community facility, available for a fraction of the cost of travelling to Birmingham."
