Fundraising football fan 'Blind Dave' Heeley paid a special visit to West Bromwich Albion just hours before setting off for his latest epic charity journey.

The 55-year-old was introduced to fans at The Hawthorns at half-time during Saturday's 3-0 Premier League victory over Sunderland. And yesterday he flew to Switzerland ahead of the start of a 700-mile charity bike ride, which was starting from Zurich today.

He will cycle alongside 30 other riders, passing through seven countries before the journey ends in Birmingham on Sunday. The cyclists hope to raise £100,000 for the Help Harry Help Others charity.

Baggies spokesman John Simpson said Mr Heeley's appearance at The Hawthorns was a "last-minute rallying cry to Baggies fans" to sponsor his latest venture.

Mr Heeley, who ran seven marathons in seven days on seven continents in 2008, tried his luck at the half-time football challenge on Saturday.

Donations can be made at www.7inseven.co.uk and cyclists interested in taking part on Sunday should call Tim Andrews on 07774 100013.
