Paul Graham, aged 49, of Old Park Road, died at the scene of the smash on the A461 in Rushall, Walsall, on April 24.

Their Chrysler Crossfire sports car collided with a Peugeot 307 after drifting into the oncoming carriageway. The Peugeot then crashed into a garden wall.

The inquest at Smethwick Coroner's Court yesterday heard that Mr Graham, who had no drink or drugs in his system, died of internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigator Pc Mark Crozier said the couple had not been wearing seatbelts, but there was no evidence the car had been speeding. In statements to police, his wife Denisa Graham revealed they had argued over a takeaway.

She said: "Paul was getting frustrated because he didn't want the same food as me." She said the argument escalated and Mr Graham became 'quite animated'.

She said the pair were struggling with her handbag after he knocked it off her lap, when the smash happened.

Assistant coroner Angus Smillie recorded that the death was due to a traffic accident.
