One Direction star Liam Payne flees fire at his £2m flat
One Direction heartthrob Liam Payne fled a blaze at his £2 million flat, which has left three of his friends in hospital.
A patio heater exploded on the balcony of the 20-year-old's penthouse in Canary Wharf, London.
It is believed a friend of the pop star, originally from Bushbury in Wolverhampton, had gone to fill up the lamp with gas when it burst into flames.
One male friend is said to have suffered 20 per cent burns to his hands and face, while another man and a woman are said to have suffered superficial burns to their hands.
The fire destroyed 80 per cent of Liam's balcony and it took 35 firefighters to put it out at about 9.45pm on Monday. Crews said 30 people had to flee the building.
No other members of 1D were at the flat, although it is thought Liam's new 19-year-old girlfriend, Sophia Smith, who he met when they were both pupils at St Peter's Collegiate School in Wolverhampton, may have have been with him.
