Two injured in car and van crash

An elderly couple were taken to hospital after a crash on the  Stourbridge to Kidderminster road which left their car on its side and a van in a nearby hedge.

The crash happened at about 4.30pm yesterday on the A456 at the junction with Broome Lane near Blakedown.

The silver Honda Civic overturned on its side and fire crews removed the roof to free the trapped couple.

The woman was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with head injuries, while the man was taken by ambulance with leg and head injuries. Both are believed to be aged in their 80s.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor, said: "On arrival, crews found a car on its side with an elderly couple trapped inside. A 'Transit' type van was in a nearby hedge.

"Working with firefighters, the roof of the car was removed so that ambulance staff could get the couple out safely."

The van driver, a man estimated to be about 60 was unhurt and was discharged at the scene.
