Smethwick Coroner's Court heard how 52-year-old Kenneth McRae was found dead at his home in Bryan Budd Close, Rowley Regis, on June 17 after police officers were contacted.
The body of his wife, 55-year-old Jane McRae, was also found at the address and post mortem results revealed she suffered a head injury. Both inquests were opened yesterday.
Senior coroner Robin Balmain said: "This man was found at home, and there was a note near his body. He said he had killed his wife and taken his own life."
The inquests were both adjourned for further investigations to be conducted.
