Paramedics tried to save the labourer, who was from Philip Road in the town, but he died at the scene.

It was revealed at the inquest that the post mortem had stated that Mr Oakes had sustained severe head injuries.

Senior Coroner Robin Balmain adjourned the case for further investigations into how the crash happened.

Meanwhile, friends of the teenager have taken to social media websites to leave tributes.

Nellie Povey wrote: "He was one of the nicest young men I knew, and I'm honoured to have had him as a good friend. I'll miss him so much."

In the wake of the crash police said that it didn't appear that any other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Police closed the road for three hours while officers investigated the cause of the accident which happened at the junction with Coombs Road. Officers have appealed for witnesses to the crash.

Sergeant Neil Higgins, of West Midlands Police, said: "Coombs Road is a fairly busy thoroughfare and we are hoping people will have been in the area and saw what happened."
