Driver in South Staffordshire death smash is named

A man who died after his car hit a tree and ended up on its roof in South Staffordshire has been named by police.

Ian McDonald from Stafford was confirmed dead after his BMW was found on Congreve Road between Lapley and Congreve, near Penkridge, on Wednesday morning.

The 39-year-old, from Ingestre Road had called his family on the way home at around 10pm on Tuesday to say he would be delayed due to a road closure.

Firefighters from Penkridge, Stafford and Brewood attended the scene along with paramedics. The road was closed while investigations were carried out and police are appealing for witnesses.
