Plans have been unveiled to shut the branch in Lichfield Street and move it into the Nisa Local Store over the road.

Opening hours will be extended under the plan, which The Post Office said formed part of its modernisation.

A six-week consultation has been launched with post office users.

It is not yet known what will happen to the post office building, which neighbours the city's Grand Theatre.

Post Office regional network manager, Simon Drinkwater, said: "We are confident this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community."

The post office moved into its current base in the 1960s.
