Work at Essington Golf Club started in 2008 but, after being hit by a downturn in the building trade, it is not due to be completed until late next year.

The development will see 80 acres of land transformed.

More than 50 residents went along to an open session for the public to see how work was progressing. The feedback from residents was largely positive, with the only complaints being due to the delays.

Landscaping work takes shape at the golf club

John and Sheila Tittensor, of Broad Lane, were among the residents who visited the site. Mr Tittensor, who is also the liaison member of the Broad Lane residents' group, said: "I think it's a good idea and it's being well done."

Felllow Broad Lane resident Jean Wright echoed his views, saying she has 'no concerns' about the works.

"It will be a feature for the village and bring more work to the area, which is what we want," she said.

"We're happy to let it take its course – you can't hurry these things."
