Organisers of the second Lichfield Food Festival say it will be bigger and better than last year.

The two-day food extravaganza starts on Saturday.

It features a host of chefs showing off their culinary talents, cookery workshops and a farmers' market with up to 60 stalls selling local produce.

The festival has been organised by the Lichfield Garrick Theatre, the district council, city council, Lichfield Arts and local chef Simon Smith.

Adrian Jackson, Lichfield Garrick's chief executive, said today: "Our first ever food festival went better than we could have hoped with thousands of people coming to Lichfield over the festival weekend to get thoroughly immersed in good food and drink.

"We're hoping to attract even more foodies this year, with events across the city and look forward to welcoming everyone to Lichfield."

Main attractions at the event include 10 free cookery demonstrations at the Lichfield Garrick and local food producers will be displaying there as well.

Chef Liam Dillon, who has worked in restaurants around the world including Sydney, New York and London, will be giving a demonstration on how to conjure up Michelin-starred dishes.

At the Guildhall in Bore Street there is a Best of Local Brewers event with a variety of local beers, lagers and ciders on offer.

The Farmers' Market has been extended this year so it is taking place over the entire festival weekend.

Food stalls will line the city's streets and along Market Square, with traders selling handmade crafts and gifts, as well as jams, breads, cheeses, meats, cakes and wines.
