Michael Garner was on holiday in Weston-Super-Mare when he received a phone call telling him his beloved two-year-old dog had gone missing from home in Stowheath Lane, Bilston. The dog was being looked after by relatives of Mr Garner's partner Nikki Hicken.

Kilo had become tangled in reeds and brambles at the side of a canal off Michael Road in Darlaston, close to the Bilston border. Two fire crews and a water rescue team were called to the scene to help the stricken pet.

Father-of-four Mr Garner said: "As soon as we found out she was alright we were just keen to come back and check she was OK."
