Glorious Chasewater Reservoir restored
This is the sight walkers and sailing enthusiasts have waited three years to see. In this aerial photograph of 200-year-old Chasewater Reservoir in Staffordshire, the lake can be seen back to its best after it was drained of water amid fears over safety at the site.
A survey by engineers in 2009 revealed major improvements were needed amid concerns the dam could cause catastrophic flooding.
Billions of gallons of water were drained as the work started in January 2010.
Thousands of fish had to be removed during the project which included building a new culvert and also replacing the bridge on the main dam.
The plug was then put back in during October 2011.
Boats began their return to the water last summer, with the reservoir half full. Water levels finally returned to normal this spring.
