Hednesford Park is to be fully revamped, complete with a new cafe, skate park, community room and car park.

The plans, submitted by Cannock Chase District Council, will see just over £3m spent on the park situated in front of the new 80,000sq ft Tesco superstore.

This news comes just days after the opening of new supermarket Aldi – part of the £50m regeneration of Hednesford.

Work on the park is set to be carried out over three years, subject to public consultation and planning permission.

The pavilion at the park will be refurbished, with the changing rooms retained and the main atrium converted into a cafe. There are also plans to create a community room in the roof of the building.

Outdoor seating is planned for the area around the pavilion. Cannock Chase Council leader George Adamson said: "These plans are really exciting."
