Scores of jobs on way in Wolverhampton Bentley Bridge plan
Up to 75 jobs are to be created at a business park in Wolverhampton under plans for a multi-million pounds expansion, it can be revealed today.
And a new Mercedes dealership is also being proposed next to the site in Wednesfield, in a move that could boost jobs even further.
Owners of Bentley Bridge Business Park, built on the former IMI site in Well Lane, say it has been so popular they are planning to spend millions on a 38,000 sq ft plot providing five new buildings on a site accessed from Wednesfield Road.
Clowes Developments says the number of jobs created will vary depending on the needs of the businesses which take on the units but estimate an average of 15 in each one.
And public documents released by Wolverhampton City Council reveal that Clowes has been in discussions with a company called Ballyvesey, which runs truck and van dealerships, about a Mercedes vehicle sales and leasing site. This would be in addition to the new buildings.
James Richards, investment and development surveyer at Clowes, said: "Our current terrace of five units is all occupied.
"We're now looking to speculatively develop another five units."
Planning permission will be sought from Wolverhampton City Council within the next few months with a view to starting on site early next year if it is granted.
Occupants of the existing units are Euro Carparts, Tool Station, Donghua (UK) Ltd, Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust and Principal Hygiene Systems. The site was developed in 2009.
A report on potential development sites going before councillors tonight reads: "Legal process between Ballyvesey (Mercedes group) and Clowes completed – application for vehicle sales / lease expected imminently.
However, Mr Richards said there were no deals done concerning the Mercedes proposals and declined to comment on them. Northern Ireland-based Ballyvesey also declined to comment.
Councillor Peter Bilson, deputy leader of the council, said: "The Bentley Bridge area is very popular with businesses.
"We've been working hard to make Wolverhampton somewhere businesses want to invest."
