60 injured at Perton Tough Guy race
More than 60 people were injured during this weekend's Tough Guy Nettle Warrior race held in South Staffordshire.
Around 1,500 people took part in the Perton event which involves a 10-mile run and competitors having to brave nettles and barbed wire as well as other obstacles.
St John Ambulance reported that the majority of people at the endurance event were treated for minor injuries including blisters, cuts, scrapes and cramp.
An 18-year-old man was however taken to New Cross Hospital after sustaining an ankle injury. The charity said that as a precaution six ambulances were on standby at the race.
Glen Curry, regional events manager for St John Ambulance in the West Midlands, said: "We didn't treat as many injuries as usual and thankfully the weather was not as hot as in recent weeks which helped.
"Competitors were in good spirits and volunteers were happy to support the event and ensure that first aid was available to those who needed it."
