South Staffordshire College jobs at risk in cutbacks
Jobs are at risk at a college in Staffordshire under new cost-cutting plans, it emerged today.
Compulsory redundancies have not been ruled out at South Staffordshire College, which is currently undergoing a £6 million revamp of its Cannock base.
Other options looked at as part of a spending review include reduced working hours for staff as well as voluntary redundancies.
It has been claimed up to 115 jobs could be at risk across the college's four campuses but bosses have not confirmed the figure.
It comes after Wolverhampton College launched a consultation over plans to cut 95 jobs in a bid to save £3m this academic year.
Colleges across the country are facing the strain of £260m budget cuts being imposed by the Government.
Bosses at South Staffordshire College today said it was a difficult time for organisations in both the public and private sector.
Sue Colby, spokeswoman for the college, said: "We have already made a commitment not to reduce the number of teaching and delivery staff should redundancies be unavoidable.
"We are strong financially and are taking steps in light of the cuts in funding to ensure we protect this position whilst safeguarding our most precious asset, the quality and value of our learner experience," she added
The college, which was recently rated good by Ofsted, also ha campuses in Penkridge, Tamworth and Lichfield.
It currently has around 6,000 students.
Work to revamp the Cannock campus is expected to be completed by September.
