A new independent record store is poised to open its doors in Walsall, it has been announced.

LP's Paradise will open in the Victorian Arcade.

It is the latest business to open as part of a drive to reduce the number of empty shop units in the town centre.

The record store will open in the next few weeks and means four of nine empty shops advertised under an incentive scheme to encourage business to open in Walsall will have been snapped up.

Walsall Council bosses today described it as a 'shot in the arm for the town'.

Regeneration chief Adrian Andrew said: "It is great news for the town centre and is just another example of a new business being helped to open.

"It just shows what can be achieved with a bit of confidence in the town."

Councillor Andrew said there was a gap in the market for a music shop since the closure of HMV at the town's Crown Wharf Shopping Park earlier this year, which followed the closure of the well known Sundown Records in 2005.
