The premises in Tettenhall High Street have been criticised for being 'unsightly' by Wolverhampton City Councillor Wendy Thompson.

She is now demanding talks with West Midlands Police to get its act together.

Councillor Thompson said the garden was not in keeping with the affluent area and that it attracted complaints from residents after seemingly being left untended.

The councillor, who represents the Tettenhall and Wightwick ward, said: "If you look at the grass outside the police station at the moment, it's almost two feet high, and it needs cutting and probably weeding.

"We're very proud of the village but the police station's garden is unsightly and is not a good image for the village. It's not in keeping with the high street, and it makes Tettenhall look untidy.

"I have received complaints from residents about it and I have been making representations to West Midlands Police.

"My understanding is that there has been an issue with new contractors.

"I'm not expecting the officers and sergeants at the the station to do it as they are far too busy keeping our streets safe but West Midlands Police should be maintaining it – we've never had an issue before."

Police spokesman Brigg Ford said: "There has been a recent change in the contractors who maintain the garden.

"We're aware of a few teething problems but don't worry – the strimmers and mowers will soon be out in force."
