Crowds at dawning of Hednesford's new Aquarius Ballroom
Hednesford's long-awaited new Aquarius Ballroom has finally opened its doors to the public, with Wolves legend Steve Bull performing the honours.
Bully carried out the official opening ceremony alongside Latin American dance instructor Colin Corbett, before hundreds of people flooded through the doors of the community centre.
The venue has undergone thousands of pounds worth of work and stands next to the Tesco superstore at the Victoria Shopping Park. But its opening had been delayed by almost four months following a legal wrangle between the owners and St Modwen, the developers of the retail park.
Vandals have also struck there three times in the past few weeks, leaving behind a £30,000 repair bill.
But manager Mike Allsopp said he was thrilled with the reaction of those who came through the door at Saturday's grand opening. "It has been even better than expected," he said. "It's been absolutely rammed and people were flocking in all day."
Groups who will hold classes at the Aquarius were also on hand to show off their activities. Yoga and Zumba demonstrations were among the activities taking place, while the Cannock
Male Orpheus Choir was on hand to provide the musical backdrop for the day.
Mr Corbett was instrumental in leading the campaign to save the Aquarius.
