Adventure-loving David Cook, aged 41, from Wombourne, a works manager, rugby player and former scuba diver, died in the accident in the Marseille area.

The tragedy happened just two days before he was due to return home to his wife, Joy, and children, Adam, aged 22, and Chloe, 19. Today his family described him as a 'wonderful husband, father and son'.

David – also known as 'Cookie' – rode his motorcycle to work most days, at Evans and White Ltd in Dawley Brook Road, Kingswinford, and had gone on holiday with his friend, Bernie Brinkmann, of Stourbridge, a week before the tragedy.

Mrs Joy Cook, aged 44, said today: "We had been together more than 23 years and he lived for his family."

The crash happened on Friday night.
