They collected an impressive £5,200 during a year of fundraising for the Promise Dreams charity.

And Steve was on hand to collect the cheque on behalf of the charity at Sainsbury's store in St George's Parade, Wolverhampton.

He said: "This is a tremendous achievement of which they should all feel very proud."

The 210 staff at the store select their annual 'charity of the year' from a short list drawn up from the suggestions of customers.

Then they get to work collecting as much money as possible for the charity.

Bag packs and a sponsored balloon race were among the events that helped to raise the money for Promise Dreams over the past 12 months. Branch manager Mrs Ann Greenall said: "I think that the Wolverhampton staff and customers are fantastically generous people not just through the cash they contribute but the time they are prepared to devote to good causes.

"All credit to them because this is especially impressive at a time of economic difficulties such as those the country have been experiencing recently."

Staff have just selected their charity for the next 12 months and have decided on Guide Dogs for the Blind.

They will also take the opportunity to train colleagues at the supermarket to help visually impaired customers.
