Motorbike riders and dogs hurt in crashes across region
Three motorcyclists were injured and a car load of dogs had to be taken to the vets in a weekend of crashes on the region's roads.
Two riders were seriously injured when their motorcycles crashed on a dirt track in Wednesbury.
One was airlifted to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with head injuries and multiple fractures following the crash off St Pauls Road at around 6.15pm yesterday.
The other was given pain relief at the scene for serious multiple injuries and suspected internal injuries, before being driven to the same hospital in an ambulance.
Ambulance spokeswoman Suzie Fothergill said: "Crews were called to reports of two motorcyclists that had been in collision.
"The first motorcyclist, a man, was treated for serious injuries to his head and multiple fractures to his body.
"Due to the nature of his injuries the doctor from the air ambulance gave the man an anaesthetic at the scene. The man was fully immobilised and airlifted to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
"The second motorcyclist, also a man, was treated for serious multiple injuries and suspected internal injuries.
Another motorcyclist in his 50s was airlifted to hospital following a separate crash in Dudley.
The man suffered serious leg injuries after colliding with a car at the junction of Avenue Road and Stourbridge Road at 10.40am on Saturday.
An ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance were dispatched to the incident.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "On arrival at the scene crews treated the motorcyclist for significant multiple limb injuries.
"The man was given pain relief at the scene and fully immobilised before being airlifted to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further assessment and treatment."
The driver and passenger from the car were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Meanwhile a number of dogs had to be taken to a veterinary surgery after a police car collided with another vehicle in Field Road, Bloxwich, at around 10.20am on Saturday.
Two officers in the police car and the driver and passenger of the Kia Sedona, believed to be a mother and daughter, were not injured in the collision. Both cars were recovered from the scene shortly afterwards.
West Midlands police spokesman Peter Edney said the officers had been carrying out a routine patrol when the collision happened.
