Air ambulance crews had to guide the craft down to land in a nearby park to reach the man who had fallen onto concrete.

The man, believed to be aged in his 40s, fell from the roof of a two storey building, off Highpark Avenue, in Wollaston.

Residents saw the air ambulance hovering above homes at around 12.15pm yesterday before landing in Swan Pool Park.

Paramedics were quickly at the scene but they had to transfer the man to the aircraft using an ambulance after failing to closer spot to land.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Claire Brown said: "The man was assessed by crews and the medic and was found to have suffered serious back pain and a suspected fractured wrist in the fall.

"The man was taken by land ambulance to the awaiting helicopter, which had landed in a park nearby, before being airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, the regional trauma centre, for further emergency treatment."
