John and Betty Hodgkiss, of Tipton, died following the smash on the A458 at Wootton, Six Ashes.

Mr Hodgkiss, aged 82, died at the scene of the crash on Friday. His 79-year-old wife was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where she died the following evening.

Mrs Hodgkiss was a passenger in a black Ford Mondeo Zetec driven by her husband which was travelling from the Stourbridge direction towards Bridgnorth.

Their car was involved in a collision with a grey Audi A4 TDI estate travelling in the opposite direction towards Stourbridge just after 2.30pm.

The woman driver of the Audi received minor injuries.

Today their son David, 47, from the Woodside estate, in Dudley, said he was 'devastated' by their loss, calling them a 'brilliant' couple who were friendly and sociable with everyone they met.

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses of the crash. They should contact Bridgnorth or Shrewsbury police stations on 101 or 0300 333 3000.
