Homes and businesses suffered the power loss at around 10.10am, with the majority expected to have power restored by 12 noon.

Charlotte Buckby, who works at the Windsor Castle pub in Lye said the power was off for a total of 45 minutes. "It went off three times. It meant we couldn't do any work."

Western Power Distribution spokeswoman Stella Hayward said the power cut affected 2,000 properties.

It is thought the problem has been caused by an underground cable.
