Field of gold caught on camera by E&S reader Paul

A rising field of bright yellow rapeseed set against a glorious deep blue sky – this stunning summer scene was captured by eagle-eyed Express & Star reader Paul Nickell.

Keen snapper Mr Nickell took this image showing all the colours of summer in a field near Stonnall. He was driving to his home in Fordhouses, Wolverhampton from Sutton Coldfield along the Chester Road on Monday when it caught his eye.

The father-of-four, aged 52, said: "I was on my way back from Sutton Coldfield after visiting family. I'd done that journey many times but I just had to stop and take a picture. I had wanted to take a picture of the lone tree for some time.

"I had my camera in the car. I took about 100 photos in 20 minutes. I'd just never seen the sky so clear and blue."

Despite the region basking in sunshine of late, forecasters are warning us not to bank on anymore barbecue weather just yet. The West Midlands is set for a period of colder and wetter weather, they say.

Today was the start of a number of cooler, showery days, with heavier downpours in places. Temperatures are likely to peak at around 19C (66F).

Forecaster Jim Dale said the weather would remain unsettled adding: "We are in for a rollercoaster week."

He said that temperatures in the south will get much hotter reaching highs of 27C (81F) by the weekend – but that the warm weather was likely to miss the Midlands where temperatures will struggle to get above 17C (63F).
