The 25-year-old – convicted of killing Chelsea Hyndman in Crete by a court on the sunshine island nine days ago – landed at Birmingham International Airport last night and said: "I feel uncomfortable and really do not know what to say.

"I know I should keep my head up because I have not done anything wrong and I realise there are people here who are supporting me but this is not the homecoming that I wanted."

He flew home from Crete to Brierley Hill with parents Patrick and Lindy.

He had denied murdering Chelsea in Malia where they lived together in May 2010 but was found guilty by the court in the island's capital Heraklion of causing grievous bodily harm that led to her death.

He appealed meaning his eight year jail sentence was suspended.
