British Bulldog Molly has new lease of life after being left to die

A seriously sick dog which only had days to live was saved by two women who saw him on sale on Facebook.

Six-year-old British Bulldog Molly was close to death when friends Joanne Bennett and Natalie Morris from Halesowen bought her for just £80 from her former owners.

The women had spotted the dog in an advert and were horrified to find it in a collapsed and lethargic state on a soaking wet cushion in the back garden of Joseph Salter and Cally Ricard's former home in Woods Crescent, Brierley Hill.

The former owners put the dog up for sale after her health deteriorated instead of taking her dog to a vets. Mrs Bennett, aged 43, and Mrs Morris, 45, bought Molly on the spot before dragging her into the back of their car and leaving her wrapped up overnight next to a radiator.

However, her health did not improve and they took it to the RSPCA, which later found it to be suffering from a life-threatening genitalia condition called pyometra. It was also found to have a tumour. Jackie Fletcher, of Manor Way Vets in Halesowen, said the dog would have died within days had it not been treated.

But following treatment Molly has now made a full recovery. Yesterday, former owners Salter, 22, of Penwood Crescent, Quarry Bank, and Ricard, 22, of Lakeside Court, Brierley Hill, pleaded guilty to failing to getting veterinary care for the dog and failing in their duty as owners at Dudley Magistrates' Court.

And at the hearing RSPCA prosecutor Mr Nick Sutton credited Mrs Bennett and Mrs Morris with saving the dog's life.

He said: "There is no shadow of doubt that if these two women did not act the way they did, this dog would no longer be with us."

Mrs Bennett said: "We had to get the dog out of the house and in a place where it would be cared for."

Salter and Ricard will be sentenced at a later date.
