Children airlifted as seven injured in two-car crash on M6
Seven people – including three children – were injured in a two-car smash tonight which closed part of the M6.
Police shut the motorway between junction 11 and junction 10a near Cannock following the crash by the slip road of Hilton Park services on the southbound carriageway.
A grey Seat Leon, and a silver Mercedes C220, were involved in the accident, which happened at 4.25pm.
A woman and three young children, who were in the Seat, and three adults in the Mercedes were injured. Two of the youngsters were airlifted to Birmingham Children's Hospital in a serious condition.
Two lanes of the M6 northbound re-opened at around 6pm, but police said the southbound stretch near Hilton services would remain closed for several hours.
Staffordshire Police told motorists to avoid the route as long delays were expected while investigations were takingplace.
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 101.
